For patients with acute respiratory failure due to severe exacerbations of COPD or congestive heart failure, NIV improves outcomes compared to supportive care alone and without requiring invasive ventilation.
The aim of the LIV program is to teach patients self-care management and give them the tools they need to make a successful transition from hospital to home using the Trilogy unit.
Each patient receives:
- Instruction on proper use of Trilogy
- Ongoing clinical evaluation by a Respiratory Therapist
- Education material review
- An individual-specific care plan to set and attain goals
Patients are also given a comprehensive care plan.
